Regarded as a leader of the modern breast cancer movement, Nancy G. Brinker, founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, provided plenty of inspiration as the Dec. 12 commencement speaker for Michigan State University. Brinker was also awarded an honorary doctor of humanities degree from MSU. Brinker founded Komen for the Cure in 1982 after her sister, Susan G. Komen, died of breast cancer.
