The findings from the 2011 Komen Mid-Michigan Affiliate Community Profile identified areas at greater risk of late stage diagnosis and breast cancer mortality. These areas included ethnic minority populations as well as low-income neighborhoods. The Community Profile also noted the lack of clarity about breast health in the community and gaps in the continuum of care. The Community Profile may be viewed here.
Drawing from the Profile the Komen Mid-Michigan Affiliate has identified the following funding priority areas:
Priority 1: Promote breast health awareness and the importance of screening across our service area, particularly in the cities of Lansing, Jackson and Ypsilanti.
Priority 2: Provide support to alleviate gaps in access to breast screening for uninsured and underinsured women, and for those aged under 40 with a breast health concern.
Priority 3: Provide breast cancer survivors with programs offering emotional, social and physical support during and following breast cancer treatment.
The Mid-Michigan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is inviting applications for grants to support high impact breast cancer programs in the Mid-Michigan area, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson, Livingston, Shiawassee and Washtenaw and Livingston Counties. Details on How to Apply may be found here.
