Rally for the Cure — Golf, tennis, dinner events and so much more...

A brand to trust — We are honored that Susan G. Komen for the Cure® ranked number one in a recent Harris Interactive poll as the most valued non-profit brand and the charity people are most likely to donate money to. Additionally, Komen for the Cure ranked second on the 2010 list of the nation’s most trusted charities. Thank you to all who help us daily in the fight to end breast cancer!

Teams

Imagine the IMPACT! Create a team of ten or more people to Race for the Cure!

Teams are an integral part of the Mid-Michigan Race for the Cure®. Racing as part of a team is a wonderful way to join together to encourage and support someone you know who is a breast cancer survivor, remember a loved one who lost her battle, or simply support the Komen effort in the fight against breast cancer. Participation as a team also helps to promote your organization’s community involvement, instills organizational pride in your team members, and allows your team the opportunity to earn recognition by participating in the team competition. Build a team of ten or more people and unite with family, friends, and co-workers in the fight against breast cancer. Register today as a team captain or join an existing team. Download your Team Captain Kit for ideas and inspiration.

Note: Online registration and donations facilitate our process and improve the accuracy of your team total!

Forming a Team

Forming a team is a fun and easy way to bring together friends, family members, fellow students, neighbors and co-workers. It’s a terrific way to "team build" in any organization. Runners and walkers can combine to form a team. You only need a minimum of 10 members on your team to be eligible for team awards. However, as the saying goes, "the more, the merrier"!

First, Select a Team Captain and Team Name

Each team has a Team Captain who is the primary contact, encourages team participation and fundraising, and assists with the registration of team members. The Team Captain must first register the team name online under "Form a Team" and then communicate that name to others. Once this step is completed, all team members can start registering online by clicking "Join a Team". It will be easy for the Team Captain to communicate with the team using the website. Go to your Participant Center to create your communications and email blasts.

Next, Start Recruiting Team Members

Building a committed group of team members who are just as invested as you are is an essential part of creating a successful and effective fundraising team. The individuals you recruit will come to trust in your passion and leadership and will ultimately participate and raise money because they believe in you and become committed to the cause, just as you are.

"Talk, Talk, Talk"

Tell everyone you know about what you are doing and why you are doing it. Find a way for everyone to participate, either by registering for the Race, soliciting donations, or volunteering. Send an email to everyone on your email list and ask for their support. Use your Team Captain page to spread information about the event and how others can join you.

What's a Participant Center? Each participant is given a personal Web site. You’ll get the latest race information from Komen, be able to update your goals, upload e-mail contacts into your address book, track your progress, and enter any offline donations. BE A ROLE MODEL! Set your own donation goals high to lead your team.

  • PERSONAL PAGE- Update and modify your Personal Page, which includes the page layout, style, color scheme, indicators or reporting features. You can upload a photo and change the text to include your reason for participating and why it is important to give to Komen Mid-Michigan Affiliate.
  • ADDRESS BOOK- Upload your contacts and/or enter addresses manually.
  • E-MAIL- Send out suggested e-mails (already available on the site) or create your own e-mail messages to send to friends and family asking for their support. These messages will include a link back to your Personal Page. Encourage each team member to raise a minimum of $100. That can be a starting point; some individuals have raised up to $10,000!
  • FOLLOW-UPS- This is an easy way to track e-mails sent, verify if your contacts have made a donation, and remind you to send thank you emails.
  • PROGRESS- View your progress under the “My Progress” icon where you will be able to view donor information and enter offline gifts(donations received in the form of cash and/or check). For those not able to donate online, have your team members collect checks made payable to Komen Mid-Michigan Race for the Cure. Cash and checks are considered offline donations and you can enter them in yourself through your Participant Center. Note: It’s important to keep track of all donations you receive. Include a donation form for each donor and don’t forget to mail them in!

Things to Remember:

-Start early
– the sooner you get going, the quicker you will reach your goal.

-Any dollar amount you raise makes a difference. Five dollars from 20 people is $100!

-Collect your donations upfront– it saves you having to ask a second time.

-Anyone is a potential donor. Start with your family and friends, then, extend to your co-workers, neighbors, grocer, banker, mechanic, lawyer, dry cleaner, fellow parishioners.
